NFC and BarCodes

Near field communication (NFC) is a communication technology used for wireless communication among electronic devices for a short distance (up to 20 cm), and it is primarily designed for use in mobile phones. This technology can be used e.g. for payment with mobile phones, mobile systems for payment of entrance fees, public transport, as a “smart” poster, or for administration of inventory.

Our company is one of the pioneers of use of NFC technology and NFCdevelopment. As the finalists of NFC Forum Global Competition 2010, two years ago we ranked among the companies which foresee and set the trends in the field of NFC technology. Barcode

Regarding unavailability in mobile devices, NFC technology is substituted with bar code for some purposes. Bar code is a tool for automated data collection and it consists of black-printed stripes (in some newer code versions, it consists of mosaic) of predefined width, allowing reading by technical devices – readers (or one-dimensional codes) or scanners (for one- and two-dimensional codes). While bar code reader does not need any other hardware requirements than a good camera with auto-focus, NFC chip reader requires hardware technology in the phone.

At Mautilus, we can programmatically process NFC chips and bar codes, and we can use bar code readers on all the common mobile platforms.
